Vocation
Since coming to Maryville College, my career goals have actually diminished - at the beginning of this year, I officially threw out my only plan for after graduation. Since then, I've basically spent my time just trying to open myself up to new things. I don't have any specific career in mind, and no plan - that's a major goal I have in going to Northern Ireland. I want to broaden my horizons while I'm there, and learn more about the kind of work I'm cut out for. I'm looking into finding some good volunteer opportunities, and I may look into the mediation work that's going on there. As far as my classes go, those will mostly be psychology classes for my minor, with some Irish literature classes for fun. Some of the psychology classes sounded really cool - this university is a lot bigger than Maryville, so their courses are a lot more specialized. On one hand, I feel a little let down about not having a specific, laid out career plan that I can go to Northern Ireland to further - but on the other, I'm completely free to delve into any area I please. With my only goal being to figure out what I want and what sort of work I should pursue after graduation, I'm not limited to any specific kind of volunteer work, job, club, or internship. I really love this newfound freedom, and I can't wait to see where it takes me once I go abroad.
