Adjusting to a New Culture
In order to minimize the traumatic effects of going abroad, I have one particular tactic in mind. This tactic is taking an inventory of my thoughts and feelings at the end of each day, or at least the days when I feel I need it most. Doing this will allow me to isolate issues that are causing me the most trouble and deal with them. The next step in this process is to determine whether I have any power to affect these issues or not, and then act accordingly. More specifically, I'll change what I can, and accept the things that I can't. This is a strategy that has already proven effective in my life here, and I have no doubt will make the less positive aspects of my time abroad more tolerable.
